The eenee compostable pads

We developed The eenee compostable pads to provide a soft comfortable disposable that contains no plastic, not even bioplastics.

We set ourselves very high standards in order to overcome the many challenges faced by commercial composters, who even though after extensive testing, and in 2009 they endorsed our eenee uPads as being suitable as feedstock for processing through their facilities, the majority have not yet approved our uPads for inclusion in their FOGO (Food Organics Garden Organics).  They believe the risk of consumers 'placing other types of plastic nappies' in the bin and causing contamination is too high, and it is not just our nappies that they still won't accept, most of the certified compostable take away containers and biobags are also not accepted for similar reasons.  Many of the facilities are also moving to rapid in-vessel composting with little time given to mature the organic outputs.  Many of the certified compostable items will fail to fully breakdown in the shorter processing times, so it is unlikely they will be accepted into many of the commercial composting facilities in the foreseeable future.

So, recognising the pathway to 'recycling' our uPads through FOGO and commercial composting was not progressing widely, we decided we would not wait around and after several years of development, we managed to make the most amazing new non-woven for the top and bottom of The eenee compostable pads.  Having a 'plastic' free coverstock which stays soft and dry next to the wearers sensitive skin is very important.  At the same time it needed to easily compost or biodegrade in the soil, in home or commercial composting, worm farms, in long drop toilets and even in the marine environment.

We are excited to be bringing The eenee compostable pads to the market, providing not only the softest disposable pad ever, but one which opens up many ways to 'up-cycle' the pads to nature, helping close the loop on waste.
